The Hosh Qindah – Visual Arts Community Center is an innovative project by the Ramallah Municipality, designed to engage artisans, youth passionate about visual arts, and independent young artists. Located in the Old City of Ramallah, this initiative focuses on preserving and promoting traditional Palestinian crafts by connecting artisans with artists through workshops and training sessions aimed at developing their work, ideas, and products in fresh, innovative ways.
The center offers an exciting opportunity to merge the traditional craftsmanship and techniques of experienced artisans with the creative insights of young artists, breathing new life into these crafts. The goal is to make traditional arts more adaptable, practical, and competitive in today's world, both in the local and global markets.
The Ramallah Municipality plays an active role in promoting the products and ideas of the project, particularly through its annual Souq Al-Haraja, the Tourist Information Center, and permanent exhibitions at the Hosh Qindah building. Additionally, the initiative facilitates networking between artisans and relevant organizations.
One of the primary objectives of Hosh Qandah is to offer independent young artists dedicated spaces that support their growth and provide opportunities for production. It also encourages these artists to engage in community and artistic collaborations with artisans to expand their creative experiences and open up new avenues for their work and ideas.
The project is also focused on broadening the understanding and application of visual arts in the community, inviting young people to participate in a series of cumulative workshops led by independent artists occupying the Hosh Qindah spaces. This initiative provides fresh opportunities for participants to explore potential careers or deepen their artistic skills. Additionally, Hosh Qindah is committed to attracting new audiences for visual arts through a diverse monthly program that includes film screenings, discussions with experts in traditional crafts, art exhibitions, and much more.
