Founded in 1957, Ramallah Public Library stands as one of Palestine’s oldest libraries and holds particular significance as the first cultural facility established by the Ramallah Municipality. This cornerstone of the city’s cultural life owes its inception to Mr. Khalil Abu Rayya, whose vision brought the library to life.
The library shelves over 60,000 diverse resources—from books and reference materials to CDs and periodicals—all cataloged by the Dewey Decimal System. Today, the library serves a community of 10,000 members who benefit from its services for reading, research, and more. Since 1999, the library has utilized the Libsys.net system to manage its catalog and member services, enabling visitors to explore its online catalog at Ramallah.noursoft.com.
In 2020, the Ramallah Municipality commenced a renovation of the library, reimagining its indoor and outdoor spaces. These efforts included accessible features, such as an elevator and specialized software for the visually impaired, along with a new outdoor garden where visitors can relax or attend events in an inviting, natural setting.
Library hours: Open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, every day except Friday and Sunday.
Borrowing policy: Members may borrow books with their library card for an initial period of two weeks, with the option to renew for an additional week if needed.
