Public announcement Invitation to participate in "Khawabi" activities
Ramallah Municipality organizes from 18 to 20 July 2019 its first edition of “Khawabi”, a folkloric festival focusing on heritage-inspired performances.
Festivities will take place in the City’s public spaces, mainly in the Old City.
The activities will target the public audience of the city focusing on production of Palestinian artists and cultural institutions working in performing arts, especiallytraditional and contemporary folkloric works.
“Khawabi” will transform the Old City into an open platform and stage for different performances in public yards, houses’ terraces and roofs and outdoor stairsand in any other public or quasi-public spaces the artists choose.
Through “Khawabi”, Ramallah Municipality aims to provide artists with the opportunity to produce and present short performances (of no more than 15 minutes), based on folkloric themes, either in their conventional and classical form or in a contemporary practice and tools. “Khawabi” offers an opportunity to artists and art groups to perform their past productions provided that they are adapted to the open display spaces in the Old City. It is also an opportunity for the artists and institutions to present longer performances (30-40 minutes) throughout the days of the events.
All selected performances will be scheduled by a specialized Committee.
Prior to submitting proposals of performances, it is preferable to visit the Old City.
Alongside the festival, meetings and dialogues on public themes related to the Palestinian cultural heritage as part of world human heritage will be organized.
